Wow. Seriously. The misinformation and fear and paranoia here is astonishing. Let me offer some facts.
ONE: transgender people are no threat to anyone. Transgender people are *not* hyper-sexual, exhibitionist predators. Transgender people are more modest than most because the last thing any transgender person wants to do is draw attention to themselves in a public place where THEY are the ones at risk.
TWO: There are ALREADY laws on the books in every state that protect women and girls from being assaulted in public places AND those laws are enforced should someone break them. Adding laws that keep out certain people for fear that allowing them will incite others (meaning heterosexual cis gender ~ non-transgender ~ men) to enter those spaces to do wrong is absolutely un-necessary, superfluous, and un-enforceable. AND such laws violate the fundamental civil/human rights of transgender people.
If anyone is interested learning anything more:

Its the predators pretending to be transgender we are so upset about.

I do hear you, LF, and I respect that! I do. But the incidences of such things happening are almost zero, and yes, there may be an increase in incidences because anyone off kilter enough to think of such a thing may well take the newly increased visibility of transgender people as inspiration and run with a crazy idea to try to pose as or claim to be transgender… however… Please understand… There are ALREADY laws that accomplish two things: discouraging those that do not belong in such places from entering those spaces and doing harm and punishing those that do it anyway.
Taking away my right to perform a natural function in a public facility or asking me to put myself in harm’s way and to put myself at a VERY real risk of harassment or violence for your comfort or peace of mind just in case some nutjob tries to say he is trans to go into your restroom and harass or assault you, when the risk of that happening is so slight as to be negligible?? That is not right. And it victimizes the entire trans community for something that is not even their responsibility!! It is punishing us for the crimes of others.
We are assaulted, beaten and raped when we go into the “wrong” restroom (meaning primarily trans women having to use the men’s room) ~ it has happened often, but the media won’t tell you that. How can that be right in anyone’s mind?
We have a fundamental right to full lives, full PUBLIC lives!! Taking away that right by trying to force us where it is not safe for us erases that right and puts extreme psychological stress and anxiety upon us… it makes living a normal functional life (school, work, hobbies, recreation, social engagement) impossible. And it creates very real health problems for us… try “holding it” for 8 plus hours because you don’t have access to a safe restroom. Bladder infections, bladder weakness, UTIs, kidney stress and failure… is that fair that we have to deal with that as an alternative to your comfort?? This is not exaggeration!! We need you to hear us!!
And there ARE people out there for whom it IS about transgender people, and they do NOT want us in public life. They want us in the closet and to be invisible and to go away. You may not be one of those people, and for that I am very glad. But please know that there is a strong agenda out there to erase us.
